The real name of the banyan Tree island is Vabbinfaru. The island is on the Ari atoll, 20 minutes by seaplane or half an hour by speedboat from Male international.

Banyan tree Resort has all the usual Maldive island options despite it's size. These include:

The food at Banyan Tree
The restaurant sits right on the beach and they serve a mix of local and international styles. Of course, personal needs and desires are accomodated, so if you want it, someone will head to Male to get it for you.

I forgot to mention that the wine at the Banyan Tree is not half bad!
I agree about the food
The food was a bit repetitive. It is all based on a buffet and there were always the same old choices. However, there were lots of them, so you can eat differently every night. The trick is to have a 'meal' rather than piling your plate with a little bit of everything. I saw people eat rice and pasta and potatoes on the same plate.
Much better to decide what sort of a meal you want and then choose the items from the buffet that correspond with it.
Take enough suntan cream
The cost of the suntan cream in the shop is a bit of a rip off. However, the sarongs are nice and at a good price.
Food wasn't that good
The food got a bit repetitive after week 1.
You forgot Canoeing
There are also canoes you can take out round the island. A great way to see some of the house reef that you cannot swim to a low tide.
Well maintained Dive School
The sign of a good dive school is how well they look after their gear. I was impressed with the attention to details. Of course, the diving itself was awsome too.
